Hip-Hop’s 1st MC/Emcee/Rapper, Coke La Rock performs a 1970s Rap

Coke La Rock stands tall as the first MC, emcee, and rapper to ever rock a crowd with spoken word over beats. His legacy traces back to August 11, 1973, the widely recognized birthdate of Hip-Hop, when he grabbed the mic at a party hosted by DJ Kool Herc in the Bronx.

During his visit to Atlanta in July 2025, Coke La Rock performed one of his raps from the 1970s for Recording Business.

Coke La Rock Rap Lyrics — 1st take: “Let me introduce myself. I am Coke La Rock, the first G Money man. I kept it G or better, any type of weather, Cold or hot, rain or not. Born in an orphan, fought like a slave. F**king and fighting is all Coke La Rock played. Because they say if a freak is unique and that’s the freak you seek. I guess before you go, the freak be on the boat. Long as the music not stopping, the rocks are dropping, the champagne is flowing, the freaks will be going. Hotel, motel, you don’t tell, we don’t tell. One time for my man Fly Guy, guy, guy. That’s for you my brother.”

Coke La Rock Rap Lyrics — 2nd take: “Let me introduce myself. I’m the one and only Coke La Rock. I’m the first G Money man I kept it G or better, any type of weather Cold or hot, rain or not. Born in an orphan, fought like a slave. They say f**king and fighting is all Coke La Rock played. Because they say if a freak is unique and that’s the freak you seek. I guess before you go, the freak be on the boat. Long as the music not stopping, the rocks are dropping, the champagne is flowing, the freaks will be going.
