“The House Is Burning” easily ranks itself as one of the top Isaiah Rashad albums we’ve seen. Every track slaps the way you’d expect a TDE project would when you bump it in your car, and we all know Zay’s flow is a testament to his talent to shut any venue down in any city. And when any TDE artist comes home to Los Angeles, you’re bound to see some of the craziest surprises.
Isaiah Rashad’s Lil’ Sunny’s Awesome Vacation tour kicked off in Boston on Sept. 8. But once the massive 42-city tour made its pit stop for, not one, but two nights at The Novo in Los Angeles, the rumor mill started spreading amongst concertgoers: there’s got to be a special surprise in store for at least one of these nights.
Aside from the speculation, the supporting acts for Zay were not to be to slept on, either with Childish Major, who made an appearance on “Revenge of the Dreamers II,” and the newest TDE signee Ray Vaughn.
Childish Major isn’t a secret to the hip-hop world, as his hits like “Lambo Truck” (see the unique music video below) and “Disgusted.” If you didn’t know, he was also the mastermind producer behind Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” He just released his latest project, dubbed “Thank you, God. For it all.”
TDE newcomer Ray Vaughn signed with the label back in 2020, but it wasn’t public until August. Since joining the TDE family, he hasn’t looked back, dropping a 3-song EP entitled “Peer Pressure.”
Once the stage was set for Zay to come out, the energy in the air had reminded me of the type of atmosphere you’d experience at the very beginning of a huge sporting event. It literally felt like the NBA Finals. Once he stepped out and began his set, it was pure energy from there.
The first guest of the night was none other than Zacari, the talented vocalist who’s made appearances on tracks like Kendrick Lamar’s “LOVE.” and “Paramedic!” He was even spotted in the crowd taking in the show after popping out to perform “Rainy Day.”
When TDE pulls up, they pull up heavy. Not only did Jay Rock pull up to support his brother Zay, the huge surprise of the night had to be the queen herself, SZA.
For the rest of the night, Rashad was just rocking with the crowd and the TDE fam on stage, dropping bangers like “From The Garden” (which SZA is getting it to above), “RIP Young,” “Lay Wit Ya,” and more.
Check out below some of the best shots from the night. Isaiah’s tour continues through November, ending at the massive Day N Vegas Festival. You can still find tickets to the rest of the tour here. If you haven’t seen Zay perform live, now is your chance. The Lil’ Sunny’s Awesome Vacation tour is just another iteration of why Isaiah and Top Dawg are on top of the rap game right now.
