Wale – Staying Power
Staying Power: the ability to maintain an activity or commitment despite fatigue or difficulty; stamina.
Wale, whether you love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny his ability to rap and put words together. Let’s start there. The doubt has always been there—for his ability to deliver, on any accord. However, Wale may be at his best (lyrically) when all odds are against him. More About Nothing, a beloved mixtape from Wale, was well received and came on the heels of a record label deal that didn’t go so well. Well, here we are again and Wale is showing off with his content.
In his latest efforts of “Staying Power,” Wale is untouchable on the mic and shows off his flow. He plays with flows but keeps it organized, then adding his poetic motion to the track. He’s honest about his situation with Atlantic Records, paranoia, and much more. “And I can out rap my opponents,” Wale raps. Towards the end, before transitioning his cadence, Wale goes into a dialogue held between Chuck Brown and himself. Not in full detail, but still.
