Beaaaast Coaaaast!: The Underachievers

The Underachievers are back with their new mind-bending visual for their latest single, “Packs”. The track premiered early in October; Issa Gold and AK the Savior are the ones to call if you need the finest pharmaceuticals. Produced by YDNA, “Packs” turns all the way up with ground shaking bass and an almost ghoulish melody riding along the drums. UA are no strangers to supplying the bangers either. This song is reminiscent of their sophomore project, Lords of Flatbush: an EP consisting of eight party starting tracks. Their lyrical ability doesn’t falter, no matter the subject. Still, this reigns true with “Packs”.

Issa comes in first setting the record straight before it even needs to be. His flow is swift but aggressive as he moves through the beat.

“Gotta keep the gang here with me, anything hold fifty / Niggas wanna bang, want no smoke” – Issa Gold

At times Issa’s flow moves so quickly you can’t tell if he took a breath but with this track, he makes sure we can hear him loud and clear. Make no mistake, he is not the one to try and finesse. His partner in rhyme, AK The Savior, comes through with an assist on the hook as they alternate every four bars. Right after, he starts the second verse matching Issa’s energy and fervor. The two balance one another out well with neither one of them overpowering the other. I will say that I find AK’s bars to be a bit more intricate where Issa is more straightforward. Nonetheless, they make a great team and they skillfully deliver the heat every time.
