You want to have a discussion about best collaborative projects? If I’m having a conversation with you on this topic, I will not fail to mention Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne. The Face Off mixtape and Blow mixtape supplied my headphones in middle school, 2006, cd player and all. I burned my favorite tracks from the mixtape onto a disc so I could listen to it on my way to school, during study hall for basketball and for after school.
My favorite element of the mixtape was the lack of hooks — Straight bars and flows were assembled when these two artists rapped together. Harlem world meets Louisiana. I always wondered: who rapped better on the body of work? Both displayed lyrical abilities and punch lines that were out of this world. This was when Wayne’s swag in his rap was really at full force. Juelz too.
If I had to pick a personal favorite off the project, I’d say it was “Rewind.” Wayne kicked off that verse hard.
“Ice Cream hoodie, Bathing Ape tennis shoes, no time for questions, no time for interviews.”
The Juelz comes in like: “I do better, who better? You never, abuse cheddar, Playboy—Hugh Hefner…I buy a new car cause I like the smell of new leather.”
Man… So, if you don’t remember the song, let us know what you think after hearing the song. Who had the better verse?
