Carti Bankx channels his emotions into new ‘Young & Heartless’ project
For a little over a couple of years now, Milwaukee-bred artist Carti Bankx has been featured on our site. Personally, I enjoy his music, his work ethic and how he brings Milwaukee artists together.
Young & Heartless is his most vulnerable and overall cohesive work to-date. The 11-track body of work comes accompanied with songs featuring Skizzy Mars, collaborator Cheapskate and Cam Meekins. The 18-year-old Bankx is experiencing more of life–emotions ranging from pleasure to pain–ranging from loss and gain. Nonetheless, his struggle has led to his triumphant moments, having his project premiered by Billboard.
I had a chance to speak with Carti about his work and his depression.
Instead of over thinking and worrying myself,” Carti began. “I started writing songs about the situation I was going through. Whenever I would feel low, I would just write down how I felt. I also started going to church. That helped a lot.
The salvation through the arts and under God’s eye, Carti was able to fight his way through the dimness and reach for brighter hours. Heartless is movements, Carti doesn’t knock the potential for love in the future. As he puts it, “if I know for a fact it’s real love, definitely.”
