It’s been over two decade since Tupac’s “Hail Mary” single released. In 2003, 50 Cent’s legacy was reaching a bridge unseen and he couldn’t be touched. Although, Ja Rule thought otherwise. After Ja released a remake of Tupac’s “Pain,” 50, Eminem and Busta Rhymes took to the mic themselves and remade a Pac classic, remaking “Hail Mary” and firing diss all in the direction of Murda Inc.
50 Cent has had countless diss songs, especially for Ja Rule. You have “I Smell Pussy,” “Back Down” and many more.
I remember when the track dropped. It was the first beef I could recall (being around 10 years old) and actually enjoyed it unfolding. Label mates teaming up and going at another label. I was tuned in on 95.5 WPGC, the D.C./Maryland radio station. They ran that track back at least ten times. Even through all of the bleeped out words, the pressure was still felt. Busta Rhymes quickly turned Ja Rule back into Jeffrey, Em turned Irv Gotti into a non-receptive punching bag of lyrics, while 50 Cent murdered Ja, Tah and Irv during his verse, as he continued to do for many more songs to come—as we know now—the existing memes from Fif.
