After a tremendous year in 2016, it seemed Donald Glover was off to another stellar start since winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy. His show Atlanta, which won the Globe for Best Comedy Television Show, is without a doubt a breakout hit and will have a long run this award season.
And it seems FX, the network on which his show airs, is accutely aware of his success, as they have now signed a deal with the actor/writer/comedian/musician to work on other network content. In addition to Atlanta, Glover will help in creating new original content for FX and it’s online streaming service. Of the new deal, FX president of original programming Nick Grad says, “Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another… We’re proud to partner with [him] in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television”.
It makes sense that FX would want to grow their relationship with Donald. On top of being praised with universal acclaim from practically any review publication you can find, Atlanta drew in around 4.8 million viewers per episode, a record for the network.
However there is a down side to this news. With so much more on his plate, including starring in an upcoming Star Wars film, it’s been announced that Season 2 of Atlanta won’t be out until 2018. Though this is a blow to those of us who are craving more from Paper Boi, I for one am glad Donald will be able to further his work with the network in other aspects.
