After being transported from St. Lucia County Jail in Florida to the Florence County Correctional Center in South Carolina, Kodak Black has posted a $100,000 bond and been released pending his trial. The rapper faces a charge of criminal sexual conduct stemming from an incident back in February. So far it’s unknown when the impending trial will be, but BLUNTIQ will keep you updated as new information is released.
I’m happy to finally be going home to my family and friends. I look forward to clearing my name in the very near future. I want to thank God, my family, my team (Vanessa, Phatboy and James McMillan), Atlantic Records, my lawyers and all of my fans for your continuous love and support. I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love most – working at being the illest rapper alive.
It’s been a tumultuous legal year for Florida rapper Kodak Black. After serving time in St. Lucia County Jail and Broward County Jail on a slew of charges (robbery, false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a delinquent), the Finesse Kid was extradited to South Carolina this week to face a judge regarding a standing sexual misconduct case. Other than the fact that it involved a hotel room in Florence, SC, little was known about the case until a warrant was released this afternoon containing some pretty vivid details.
The official charge is criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, and stems from an incident occuring on February 7, 2016 in which Kodak allegedly assaulted an unnamed victim. According to the warrant, the rapper forced himself onto the victim, performed unwarranted oral sex, and penetrated her after forcibly removing her underwear. She also had bite marks on her neck and breasts. This was all done while the victim repeatedly told him to stop.
This sort of crime carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in the Palmetto State, with the trial more than likely taking place six months to a year from now. His South Carolina attorney, Beattie Ashmore, refused to comment on the current situation after the warrant was released to the media, but his Florida attorneys do believe he will be found not guilty.
With his career just beginning to sky rocket, a longer stint in lockup could prove as a major speed bump for Kodak, who was recently featured on XXL’s Freshmen Class of 2016. Hopefully justice will be served and he can get back to feeding his thirsty fans soon enough. Take a look at the warrant HERE.
